Grants for Research and DevelopmentGrant for Research & Development (R&D) aims to help start-ups and SMEs carry out research and development work on technologically innovative products and processes at the pre-production phase that you would not necessarily undertake without a grant. Grants for R&D are awarded to 5 types of projects; Proof of Market Research Micro Development Development Exceptional Projects Grants range from £5,000-£20,000 for proof of market and micro development projects through to £20,000 to £100,000 for research projects and up to £250,000 for development projects. Grants for exceptional projects - those projects that develop new technologies that are of strategic importance to an industrial sector and national competitiveness – range from £20,000 to £250,000 for research projects and up to £500,000 for development projects. Grants range from 35% to 60% total eligible project costs depending on the project type and the size of your business. For more information, please click here. Grants for Business InvestmentGrant for Business Investment aims to support businesses to increase productivity by investing in projects which require financial intervention in order to proceed, and which have the potential to improve the region’s economic performance. Grants can be used to: Upgrade a business by introducing innovative new technology or processes; Take a new product from development to production Modernise, expand or re-organise an existing business Launch a new business. SMEs based in England are eligible to apply. Grants range from £10,000 to £2million. Small businesses can receive a maximum grant of 20% of the total project spend, and medium-sized companies, a maximum of 10%. Small businesses based in assisted areas can receive up to 35% and medium-sized businesses up to 25%. For more information, please click here.
